MEL WEBB,
a former Times journalist and great friend and supporter of darts, has
sadly passed away.
An accomplished and incisive writer, he loved attending darts
tournaments and was a regular at the Lakeside World Professional for a
number of years.
In the backstage press office, he was noted not only for his knowledge
and banter, but also his love of a good cup of tea.
He maintained the interest of The Times in the sport of darts and its
players over a number of years, until he was surprisingly and
unexpectedly made redundant some time ago.
A master of the written word, he suffered a fatal heart-attack at home
on June 11th .
Mel Webb was a great and generous man who will be sadly missed by us
all, and the British Darts Organisation sends its sincere condolences to
his wife and family at this very sad time.
