Danish Open and Master Report

An outstanding weekend of darts took place this weekend at the Sports and Events Park in Esbjerg, all competing to see who would become the next Søgaard Denmark Open and Masters Champion.

Saturday’s event, the Denmark Open saw a Dutch double as Willem Mandigers and Aileen de Graaf took the Men’s and Ladies events.

Mandigers claimed the title with a 6-3 victory over Mark McGeeney, having already overcome challenges from Jim Williams and fellow Dutchman, 17-year-old Wessel Nijman.

De Graff was in great form as she fought through a tough draw to emerge on top, recording wins over Casey Gallagher, Paula Jacklin, Trina Gulliver and Fallon Sherrock, before facing Australia’s Corrine Hammond in the final, taking the match 5–3.

England Captains Scott Mitchell and Deta Hedman, despite being unable to retain their Open titles, emerged victorious in Sunday’s Denmark Masters.

Mitchell claimed a 5-1 win in his semi-final against Martijn Kleermaker to secure his place against Welsh International, Wayne Warren in the final. Warren had beaten current World Number 14, Conan Whitehead in the other semi, however Mitchell proved too strong for Warren on the day, winning the final 6-3.

Last year’s champion, Sharon Prins, saw off the number 1 seed Lorraine Winstanley in her semi-final, with Hedman winning in straight legs against an in-form Roz Bulmer, who had earlier knocked out yesterday’s Champion, Aileen de Graff. Another solid performance from Hedman saw her secure the title, winning 5 legs to 2 over Prins and taking her total career BDO titles to an impressive 130!
