Winmau World Masters 2016 - Day 2 Report

Day Two of the Winmau World Masters saw the various events reach the televised stage with the Winmau Youth finals and the last 32 matches in the Winmau World Masters take place.

Justin van Tergouw completed the first part of a possible amazing double by taking the Winmau Boys title defeating England’s Owen Maiden in the final.  Tergouw averaged 26.54 per dart in his 4-1 victory with Maiden producing a very good 23.49 single dart average.

Russian starlet Veronika Koreleva defeated England’s Beau Greaves 4-3 in a very close Winmau Girls final, hitting a 20.62 average compared to her opponent’s 21.76.

Glen Durrant, the champion from 2015 continued the defence of his title with a 3-0 whitewash of Malta’s Norbert Attard and will now face Davy van Baelen in the last 16 after the Belgian had defeated Wales’ Martin Phillips 3-1.

In a very tight match Wesley Harms goes through to face Darius Labanauskas after a 3-2 victory over Raymond Smith from Australia.  Labanauskas had beaten Steve Alker from Wales 3-0.

Ireland’s John O’Shea ended Martin Adams hopes of a fourth title with a 3-2 victory and he will now play Brian Dawson after the Englishman had beaten Canadian Jeff Smith 3-2.

Jim Williams from Wales hit 30.93, the highest winning average of the round, in his 3-2 win over German player Robert Allenstein and will now play Jamie Hughes who defeated Gary Robson 3-1.

Canadian Kiley Edmunds produced the first shock of this round with a 3-2 victory over Dutch player Danny Noppert who has been winning tournaments round Europe for fun.  Edmunds will play Scotland’s own Alan Soutar who produced an excellent match with crisp finishing to get the better of another top Dutch player Richard Veenstar.  Soutar’s 3-1 win produced a 29.80 average.

In the match between England Internationals Mark McGeeney and James Hurrell it was McGeeney who progresses with a 3-2 scoreline and he now plays current World Champion Scott Waites who defeated English player David Copley 3-0.

Dean Reynolds from Wales defeated Neil Duff from Northern Ireland 3-0 and goes forward to play Daryll Fitton who defeated David Parletti 3-0.

The final pair of matches saw Belgian Geert de Vos defeat Ireland’s Michael Meeney 3-0 and Scott Mitchell defeat Oskar Lukasiak from Sweden, again 3-0, resulting in a Belgium v England match in the next round.

Winmau Youth World Masters

The 2016 Youth Masters were decided today, at Lakeside, the Home of World Darts. The Girls Masters has been won by Russia's Veronika Koroleva with England's Beau Greaves as runner-up.  The 2016 Boy's Masters Champion is Justin van Tergouw (Netherlands) with Owen Maiden (England) as runner-up.
