THE INAUGURAL Irish Open and High Performance Roofing Open was held at the Gleneagles Hotel, Killarney this weekend and Mike Warburton dominated the proceedings by taking both the Men's CAT A+ and CAT C Opens. Fallon Sherrock won the CAT A+ Irish Open, whilst Maria O'Brien tasted her first tournament success since the Slovak Open in February by winning the Ladies High Performance Roofing Open.
Warburton, fresh from a good run at the One80 L-style World Masters, was in fine form as he overcame challenges from both Keane Barry and Ryan Hogarth in the finals.
Saturday's Irish Open saw number 13 seed Warburton took out a trio of Irish talent including One80 L-stlye World Master John O'Shea, Ciaran Teehan in the semi-finals before taking the title over Barry win a close 7-6 win. Barry beat England's Antony Allen 6-2 in his semi-final.
Sunday's event saw Warburton beat Jack Vincent 6-3 in the semi-finals, marking 24th seed Vincent's best result in recent months. Warburton beat Hogarth 7-4 in Sunday's final, after Hogarth got a win over Ireland's Andy Richards 6-4 to make his second final since the Dutch Open earlier this year.
Fallon Sherrock's win in the Irish Open sees her move into World Number Two spot. Sherrock beat BDO World Professional Darts Championships qualifier Kirsty Hutchinson in the final 6-2, registering a 92 average in the process. Sherrock beat Russia's Anastasia Dobromyslova 5-2 in the semi-final, with Hutchinson beating Aileen de Graaf by the same scoreline in her progress to the final.
Sunday's Ladies Champion Maria O'Brien had a tough final match against England teammate Deta Hedman, edging her out 6-5 to take the title. Hedman beat Irish Open Runner-Up Kirsty Hutchinson 5-3 in the semi-final, whilst O'Brien dashed the title hopes of de Graaf, who is knocked out at the semi-final stage for the second day running 5-4.
