David Cameron progressed to first round of the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships for just the second time in six attempts, as he defeated crowd favourite Andy Hamilton on the Lakeside stage.
The Canadian recorded a comprehensive 3-0 scoreline to see off the former PDC Premier League participant, in what many people will see as a monumental shock. Despite opening proceedings with a spectacular 180 in the opening leg of the match, Cameron would take the set 3-1.
The pair exchanged breaks of throw in the second set, before ‘Excalibur’ exploited some stray darts from Hamilton to open up a 2-0 advantage in sets. Just as the tide was looking like it may turn, the Canadian would smash in a 91 checkout to put the result beyond all doubt.
Cameron will now face Gary Robson in the first round as they round off the session on Tuesday evening.
