And what a final it was for both of them! Young Jordan hit a 180 in the 1st leg and then checked out on 116. Another 180 came in the 4th leg as he was eventually crowned 2013 Youth Singles Champion 3-1. Both Jordan and Casey are real talents and their performances auger well for the future of BDO darts.

In the Women's Singles Semi-Finals the in form DETA HEDMAN beat Welsh favourite JULIE GORE 4-2 and TRINA GULLIVER beat RACHEL BROOKS 4-1 to set up an exciting final.

In the 2013 final, Deta hit a 180 in the 2nd leg and had 81 left after 9 darts, but the doubles deserted her. However,Trina had to wait for her first 180 until the 7th leg when Deta was 4-2 up. The Dark Destroyer eventually retained her 2012 BDO International Open title with a 5-2 win.

In the Men's Singles the only Dutchman left in the competition, JAN DEKKER beat Scotland's JOHN GOLDIE 5-3 in the Semi-Finals, and reigning Lakeside World Champion SCOTT WAITES raced into another major final with a 5-1 Semi-Final triumph over JAMIE HUGHES.

In the final, Scott's high-scoring form deserted him as Jan powered to a 3-0 lead, but with a brilliant 124 checkout Scott made it 3-1 and then hit a 180 in the next, only to see it matched by Jan who went 4-1 up and then 5-1 before Scott pulled it back to 5-3. But it was too late as the rampant Double-Dekker went on to win the final 6-3 in convincing style.

“Little” Richard Ashdown is riding a wave of euphoria at the moment! He still can’t quite believe that he has been awarded one of the most prominent positions in the BDO, and now he's been signed by the world’s leading darts brand Winmau!

Richard Ashdown is a full time darts MC/referee, spotter, statistician and event organiser. Affectionately known as "Little Richard" (due to his height) he is one of the big personalities on the professional scene.

He has been an MC for Winmau sponsored legend Bobby George since 2002 and he has worked alongside all of the top names in the sport, including Scott Waites, Andy Fordham, Trina Gulliver and Darryl Fitton.

Richard has vast experience as both a master of ceremonies and a referee at countless tournaments across the world. He has co-hosted the WDF World and European Cups every year since 2008, and will do so again in Canada this October for the World Cup.

Richard’s new position as the BDO’s master of ceremonies will see him host all of its major tournaments, including the BBC televised Lakeside World Championships and the Winmau World Masters (which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year).

Renowned as one of darts top statisticians, he has now completed 12 years as a member of the BBC's production team at the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships, with various on screen appearances. I have always known that Winmau has the best products on the market and it is a pleasure to be able to officially voice and endorse this through a partnership with them. My first BDO event is the International Open this weekend, and I will be wearing my Winmau badge with pride!”
It was established in 1948 to provide, promote and develop opportunities for men, women and children with disabilities to participate in recreational and competitive wheelchair sport.

For over 50 years, the charity has provided unique opportunities for sport to be used for rehabilitation, recreation and competition and was the founding organisation for the disability sports movement which led to the Paralympic Games.

Having already included sports such as athletics, table tennis, skiing, basketball and rugby, WheelPower readily identifies the huge social and rehabilitation opportunities offered by darts.

Steve Snelling, Sports Advisor for WheelPower, said: “When Mike Skuse of the WWDA contacted us with the overwhelming reaction to the launch of wheelchair darts in the UK, it was immediately obvious to us that the sport of darts has huge potential.

"One of our main aims is to provide new and exciting opportunities for wheelchair users, and darts is such a big part of the popular culture in the UK that we know it will be an instant success with players across the country.”

Mike Skuse of the WWDA added: “The introduction of the new 137cm throwing height for wheelchair players, and the formation of the World Disability Darts Association by Russ Strobel, opened up a whole new avenue for wheelchair players across the globe. We will be working closely with Russ and his colleagues, WheelPower and Winmau to further the sport and bring new and exciting opportunities for wheelchair players in the darts arena. WheelPower are an incredibly influential and well-respected organisation and to have their full support is a huge boost for our Association”.

Full details on WheelPower can be found via their website: http://www.wheelpower.org.uk

More information on the WWDA can be found on http://www.wheelchairdarts.co.uk/ and you can follow them on twitter: @WheelchairDarts

Winmau Launches 9-Dart Club in Poland

Winmau, the official supplier of Blade 4 dartboards for the WDF/BDO Winmau Polish Open, are delighted to honour the Polish players who have recorded a rare nine dart finish in Polish competitions.

Players Jacek Krupka, Bartosz Pacek and Bartosz Sobczynski are admitted to the elite "Winmau 9-Dart Club".

Each will receive a personalised laser-etched aluminium darts case featuring the details of their unique achievement.
Fast-throwing Bunting hit a maximum and two 15-darters on his way to the title and there was a new winner in the Women’s Singles as Lakeside World Champion Anastasia Dobromyslova beat Lisa Ashton 4-0 in a repeat of January's Lakeside world final.

The Russian star hit an 80 finish and 14 dart leg to claim the £3,000 first prize.
The seafront at Douglas was battered by high winds and sky-high waves, but inside one of dart’s most prestigious venue temperatures soared as the world’s best did battle over four days for a share of the £23,000 on offer, rankings points and places for the singles winners in the 2013 Winmau World Masters.

The four day tournament kicked off with the annual Okells “Early Bird” £1000 “winner takes all” competition. And it provided the right tonic to encourage islanders to try their hand in the festival as former West Midlander Wayne Harrison, who now lives on the island powered into the final.

There was 140 hopefuls on the oche for the competition and it was Harrison, who celebrates 10 years of living on the Isle of Man next month, who got locals cheering as he battle to the last four where he despatched Greater Manchester’s Steve Green to surge into the final.
The second semi saw Powys’ Jim Williams overcome the challenge of former England international Tony Eccles.

Harrison, who was bidding to emulate fellow islander Colin Tyrer’s victory in the same competition two years ago failed to use the throwing advantage and lost the opening leg, but bounced back with 100 and 137 scores to level.

In the next Williams missed double tops for a 68 finish and Harrison swept home his favourite double 16, firing out a maximum as he clinched victory in the next on double one.
In the Winmau Youth Singles there were 21 entrants and it was diminutive Natasha Eaves who won through in the top half. Tash, just 13, from Fleetwood, fought back after losing the opening leg to topple Joe Davis of Hove (Sussex) 2-1, exiting with an 86 flourish (double 18, 18,double 16).

Her opponent in the final was Joe Singleton ,who beat his friend Keiran Goffin in an all-Morecambe Semi Final clash 2-0.

Eaves, mature for her age, hit a ton and then clinched the opening leg with a 71 checkout, finished on double tops, firing out a brace of 140s as she moved ominously into a 2-0 lead. She clinched victory with a 15-dart leg, earning a place in the Winmau World Masters youth championship in October.

More than 200 teams started the Mixed Pairs competition, with reigning Lakeside World Champion Scott Waites and partner Dee Bateman earning a place in the final after defeating the powerful duo of Martin Adams and Trina Gulliver, who between them have 12 world championship titles.

Stephen Bunting and Anastasia Dobromyslova won through in the bottom half of the draw after dashing the hopes of the Robbie Green/Deta Hedman pairing in the other Semi Final clash.

It was Bateman who drew first blood in the final, clinching a 54 finish on double tops, and then spurred by a 180 from Waites, she obliged by clinching the match-winning double 16 as they celebrated their 2-0 win over Bunting and Dobromyslova.

Around 112 entries lined up for the Women's Pairss, with the highly fancied duo of Trina Gulliver and Lisa Ashton failing to reach the last eight, toppled by Irina Armstrong and Aileen de Graaf.

Tamara Schurr and Sharon Prins defeated Heather Lodge and Sas Bode to win through in the top half of the draw, while Lorraine Farlam and Anastasia Dobromyslova scored a Semi Final success over Paula Jacklin and Sue Gulliver in the bottom half of the draw.

Farlam and Dobromyslova had success on their minds as they fired out three 100s to set up a double 10 exit to claim the first leg. Despite two 140s from their opponents it was Farlam and Dobromyslova who clinched victory.

It was Glen Durrant and Tony Eccles who thwarted an all-Dutch final by toppling Remco van Eijden and Joey ten Berg 2-0.

The Dutchman fired out 121, 125 scores but a ton and then 180 from Eccles steered the north of England partnership to the opening leg. In the next there was 140 and 100 scores plus another maximum from in-form Eccles as the England duo clinched a 14-dart match-winning victory on double 16.

Disappointed Dutch player and former world champion Francis Hoenselaar was unable to defend her Women’s Single title after breaking an arm in a cycling accident as a record field of 144 players stepped up to the oche to challenge for the top prize.

Islanders struggled against the top flight opposition from the mainland UK and the Netherlands – but five players from the Isle of Man managed to get through to their board Semi Finals before finding the pace too hot to handle.

Those expected to perform well safely negotiated their board finals and on to the Quarter Finals, where former double champ Trina Gulliver dismissed Lorraine Farlam 3-0 to set up a Semi Final showdown with Lisa Ashton, the 3-1 conqueror of Irina Armstrong.

Julie Gore, chasing a record-equalling five titles looked on course after twice leading World Champion Anastasia Dobromyslova, but the cool Russian levelled and booked her place in the last four with a 47 checkout, finished on double 16.

Her opponent was five times Manx champion Deta Hedman, who came through a tense five leg clash with Aileen de Graaf of the Netherlands, after losing the opening leg. Hedman surged into the Semi Finals with a faultless 90 finish completed with double 10.

In the first Semi the Russian World Champion signalled her intentions by twice leading the five times Manx title winner. Hedman levelled with a 90 checkout, completed on bull , but Dobromyslova replied with a 100 finish, completed on a match-winning double tops.

A lack lustre performance from the nine times world champion Trina Gulliver, who was struggling with the effects of a hip problem, saw her uncharacteristically go 2-0 down in her Semi Final clash with England colleague Lisa Ashton. She battled to find the 60 segment and was punished in the third leg by power-scoring from Ashton, who coasted through 3-0 with double 18.

In the final Dobromyslova signalled her title intentions by following up 140,121 and 100 scores with an eye-catching 80 checkout. More power-scoring – including a 140 and 136 – paved the way for her to annex the leg against the throwing advantage in just 14 darts.
There was more of the same in the third leg as 100, 140 and 123 scores steered her to a 3-0 lead with double six, Ashton’s confidence draining from her as memories of her World Championship defeat at the hands of Anastasia must have come flooding back.

Both hit 140s in the fourth leg, but Ashton missed double 18 for a match-saving 68 as cool Dobromyslova – also requiring 68 - swept in the title-winning double 16.

Comeback man Andy Fordham had big crowds following him as he bid to recapture the form that took him to the Lakeside world title. He acknowledges he still has a long way to go but is improving with each outing. He took his place among the 520 starters and steamed into board final before going out, well pleased with his performance.

John Walton was a non starter in the island event and Martin Adams ended up on the sidelines after failing to negotiate his board qualifying rounds. Losing world finalist Tony O’Shea, Willy van de Wiel and veteran Welsh left-hander Martin Phillips were also left to reflect on what might have been.

Nine Manx players – inspired perhaps by the feat of Wayne Harrison in the Okells competition - fought their way to the board finals before having to concede defeat to their more experienced opponents.

Gary Robson – winner in 2007 – failed to make the last 32, along with Richie George, Alan Norris, Ross Montgomery, Jan Dekker, Wesley Harms, Glen Durrant and Scott Mitchell.
Feisty left-hander Steve Douglas form Kent battled into the Quarter Finals, where he dismissed Jamie Bain 3-1 to set up a Semi Final encounter with Darryl Fitton, who beat Mick Nixon by the same scoreline.

In the bottom half of the draw, Scott Waites was warming to the challenge of lifting his first Manx title, toppling Rick Hofstra and then grounding another flying Dutchman - Jeffrey de Graaf, the defending champ - who fell 3-1 to the Yorkshireman.

Waites’ Semi Final opponent was Stephen Bunting, who took out Yorkshire danger man Garry Thompson and then delivered the bullet to Martin Atkins to book a place in the penultimate stage with Waites.

A thrill-a-minute encounter was promised by fast-throwers Bunting and Waites, and they did not disappoint, enacting a five leg thriller at breakneck speed. Bunting hit a 140 and 180 as he annexed the opening leg, against the throw in 12 darts, opening up a 2-0 lead with a 15 darter, despite a brace of 140s for Scotty.

Throwing first Waites clinched the third after both players nervously missed doubles and then annexed the fourth against the throw on double eight after narrowly missing bull for a show-stopping 170 with his previous set of darts.

Bunting won “the bull” in the fifth leg and drove home the advantage, recovering from an opening 45 to follow it with scores of 100,180, 140, setting himself up for the match-winning double 18 – his 13th dart of the leg.

Unfortunately, the eagerly anticipated second Semi Final clash between Steve Douglas and Darryl Fitton had to be cancelled after MC Andy Firth announced that the popular Kent player had been taken ill and had been forced to fly home, leaving “The Dazzler” with a walkover. Everyone sends best wishes to Steve for a speedy recovery.

The methodical slow-throwing Fitton knew he had to try to disrupt the fast throwing Bunting if he was to clinch his second Manx title and he took the opening leg with the throw, but Bunting swept back , firing out a maximum to level. The next two legs went with the throw, but then Fitton missed three doubles for double 12 to move ahead as Bunting pounced to go 3-2 ahead.

With the throwing advantage in the sixth leg, Stephen his a 140 and two tons as Fitton desperately searched for a big score, leaving a grateful and jubilant Bunting to clinch the title with double 16.

He becomes the 23rd different winner of the men’s singles during the 28-year history and the 24th Englishman to land the title.

Just prior to the start of the tournament Specsavers stepped in to offer a special £1000 award to the first player in the men or women’s singles to hit the perfect nine dart game.
No-one was successful - perhaps they should have gone to Specsavers!!

There is £5000 on offer to the winner of the Men’s Singles and £3000 for the Women’s Singles champion, with the added bonus of invitations to the 2013 Winmau World Masters.

Both Scott and reigning and three times Lakeside Women's World Champion, Anastasia Dobromyslova, are seeking their first Isle-of-Man titles.

A total prize fund of £22,800 is on offer across the three-day tournament (March 8-10), as well as BDO Invitation Tables Category A rankings points. Also new to the event is a 9-Dart prize sponsored by Specsavers.

The venue for the 28th festival will once again be the palatial sea-front Villa Marina entertainment complex in Douglas - one of the most impressive venues on the darts calendar.

Last year there was a strong contingent from the Netherlands and the island is once again expecting an 'invasion' by the orange army after an all-Dutch 2012 final in which Jeffrey de Graaf celebrated victory over fellow countryman Jan Dekker in the Men’s Singles.

And there were further Dutch celebrations when Francis Hoenselaar won the Women’s Singles title - preventing England's Deta Hedman from collecting her sixth Manx win.

Deta will be back this year, as will nine times Lakeside Women's World Champion Trina Gulliver, who won the recent Dutch Open Singles title and will be keen to continue her good form by claiming her third I-o-M Singles title.

Four times winner Julie Gore will be looking to build on previous successes but the lure of the £3000 top prize and rankings points will ensure a high quality field.

Supporting the singles events are Mixed Pairs, Men’s and Women’s Pairs, plus the island play-offs for the Winmau World Masters Youth competition.

For early arrivals on the island the 2013 Festival opens on Thursday night (March 7) with a winner-takes-all knockout competition, supported by Okells Brewery.

The following night will see the Mixed Pairs and Winmau World Master Youth play-offs being staged, with the Men’s and Women’s Singles played down to the Semi-Finals on Saturday.

Sunday will see the Men’s and Women’s Pairs, followed by the finals of all competitions immediately afterwards in the impressive circular Royal Hall.

As well as support from the Department of Tourism, the Festival attracts support and backing from Isle of Man Steam Packet Holidays, Okells Brewery and Winmau.

A Twitter account has a preview of the event and will also post updates throughout the weekend.
It can be followed on @iomdartfest and/or by using the hashtag #iomdartfest to access information.
The endorsement of a lowered board height for wheelchair players at the world’s highest level was important because darts and its well established infrastructure is an ideal environment in which those living with disability can participate.

"Our sport is enveloped in a valuable supportive and social network, and of all sports none holds greater potential to improve one's overall feeling of wellbeing long-term. Winmau’s high level of support is indicative of the integrity of their policies in relation to those living with disability. Winmau’s joint sponsorship of the WDDA and Wheelchair Darts UK has enabled us to join forces under the one brand whose magnificent support will help us realise our goals.”

Russ’ campaign was aimed at gaining official acknowledgement that a board set at 137cm was as fair and equivalent for a wheelchair player as the standard board height of 173cm is for a standing player. His dartboard setup guidelines have now been approved by the World Darts Federation for use in all WDF sanctioned events where the Wildfire 137 dart frame concept is available for use.

The ingenious Wildfire 137 dart frame was designed to allow wheelchair players the opportunity to compete directly with standing players throwing at their respective heights on the one piece of equipment. Winmau will be including the new guidelines in their next print-run of instruction booklets which are included in all dartboard packaging, and they will gradually filter worldwide as new stock enters the market during the months ahead.

Addressing the many requests during his campaign to develop something equally challenging for an even wider range of disabilities Russ created The Satellite, a visually striking, magnetic pendulum-action game; based pro-rata on the scoring proportions of a dartboard. Unique Satellite competitions will be held at all WDDA events enabling participation and networking of players and carers living with a wide range of disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, Vision Impairment, and most levels of Quadriplegia.

Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau, said: “I first met Russ, who comes from Victoria, Australia, last year after his meeting with the WDF, and was overwhelmed by his generosity of spirit and determination not only to see people with disability enjoy the sport of darts, but also promote darts as an adjunct to rehabilitation and therapy.

"We are incredibly proud to be working alongside Russ and his fellow WDDA Board Members to help people of all ages and abilities experience the enjoyment and benefits of our sport. We officially endorse the Wildfire 137 and The Satellite, and will be using our marketing and distribution networks to help the WDDA wherever possible.

"Working jointly we will spread the word globally and hope that recognition of the WDDA leads to our sport’s future inclusion as a Paralympics event.”

The first WDDA all-disabilities event using both the Wildfire 137 dart frame and The Satellite will be held on May 18th and 19th, 2013 in Dandenong, Victoria, Australia. The Winmau Blade 4 dartboard is the board of choice for all WDDA tournaments.

For further information on the WDDA, please visit http://www.world-disability-darts.org/ or email Russ Strobel allbrothers@bigpond.com You can follow the WDDA on Facebook and on twitter Russ Strobel@wildfire137

BICC REVIEW FEBRUARY 9TH AND 10TH

PREMIER DIVISION

It’s no change at the top of the table following a weekend of high-scoring action during which Cheshire’s Anastasia Dobromyslova topped the Ladies Averages with an outstanding 31.31 average, which included six perfect darts at the start of her final leg! And to confirm the quality of the ladies, Trina Gulliver, Deta Hedman, Lisa Ashton and Lorraine Farlam all had winning sets with over 25 averages.

In the Men's it was two of Yorkshire’s Lakeside players who topped the averages with 31.81 apiece, namely Jamie Wilson and Garry Thompson. Those wins helped Yorkshire maintain their place at the head of the Premier, closely followed by Essex who overcame Cheshire, and Lancashire who beat Warwickshire. At the foot of the table, Kent won the clash of the bottom two with victory over Surrey, while Devon will be looking over their shoulders after losing at home to Glamorgan - having played a game more than those below them.

DIVISION ONE

Cornwall remain clear at the top of the Division, despite being held by a resurgent Derbyshire. However Cambridgeshire, who seem to have found their feet in this Division, continue to close the gap with a 22 – 14 victory at Staffordshire, where England’s new recruit Amanda Mallett topped the Ladies Divisional averages with 25.05. Dorset just edged out Nottinghamshire, who still retain their promotion dreams, while in the lower echelons, West Midlands drew with Co Durham in a match which produced the two top averages in the Division. Co Durham’s Keith Gowland 31.81 was pipped at the post by West Midlands Nick Fullwell with 32.09.

DIVISION TWO

Lincolnshire remain at the top of the table despite losing to promotion rivals London, whilst Berkshire’s 19 -17 win against Somerset means this Division looks likely to go to the final game of the season to decide who goes up. The foot of the table is equally competitive as Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Wiltshire all slipped to away defeats against Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and Suffolk respectively. In the averages Berkshire’s Paul Roe with 30.67 topped the men's, while London’s Hayley Plume topped the ladies with a more than respectable 24.24.

DIVISION THREE

Cleveland have pulled clear at the top of the table following a comfortable 22 – 14 win at home against Gwynedd, but the other promotion places are all up for grabs. Sussex remain second, having played a game more than their rivals. They overcame fellow promotion hopefuls Shropshire. Gloucestershire and Leicestershire cancelled each other out, which allowed Montgomery and Radnor as well as Buckinghamshire to put themselves in with an outside chance while at the same time moving clear of the drop zone following wins against the bottom two of Middlesex and Worcestershire. Cleveland’s Tony Eccles 31.31 and Middlesex’s Tina Neylon 23.86 topped the divisional averages.

DIVISION FOUR

Whoever gets out of Division Four will have done so the hard way! All four teams who managed to beat the weather last month are in the top four places. However, the three teams directly below them are realistically in with a chance of promotion. Merseyside remain top despite going down 20 – 16 away to Pembrokeshire, whose Mens ‘A’ team resurrected their hopes by winning 10 -2. Second placed Cumbria lost out at home to Tyne & Wear, while Humberside, who were in third place at the start of the day, went down 21 -15 away to lowly Breconshire. In the other match in the Division, West of England, whose Sam Allen topped the Divisional Averages with 31.98, put themselves back in the promotion hunt with an emphatic 25 – 11 home win against the Isle of Wight. It was Pembrokeshire’s Welsh International Julie Gore with 24.24 who topped the ladies averages.

SCOTLAND NORTH

Grampian have closed the gap on Fife following an emphatic 31 – 5 victory against Perthshire, while leaders Fife, who have a bye next time around, were made to work hard by Tay Valley for their 23 – 13 win. Highland moved above Clackmannanshire following their 22 – 14 win, while Angus continue to move up the table after beating East Stirlingshire 26 – 10. In the averages it was two Tay Valley players who topped the Division: Ross Parsons 31.31 in the men's and ladies ‘B’ team player Jennifer White 20.04.

SCOTLAND SOUTH

It was both West Ayrshire and Ayrshire who came out winners in their top of the table clashes against Lanarkshire and Lothian respectively. However, the 32 – 4 demolition of West Lothian by Borders puts them back in the frame for top spot. In the local derby it was East Renfrewshire who defeated Renfrewshire 24 -12. And it was a West Ayrshire, Ayrshire double in the averages, with Andy Boulton’s 30.09 topping the men's and Scottish International Anne Kirk 22.43 topping the ladies.
2013 SCOTTISH OPEN
This was presented to Sue Williams, Chairperson of the BDO, by Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau, on the hallowed Lakeside stage.

Winmau and the BDO also announced a new initiative during Lakeside 2013 – the launch of the Winmau 9 Dart Club, with membership restricted to BDO players who hit the magic 9 Dart 501 in BDO and WDF majors and opens.

To mark this new initiative, Winmau have produced a commemorative set of darts for two players who have achieved the impressive feat in tournaments sponsored by the darts giant. The first was presented to John Walton, who recorded the first and only 9 dart 501 in the Winmau World Masters in 2007, and his darts were presented to him at the player’s luncheon at Lakeside 2013.

More recently Christian Pratt hit a 9 darter in the 2012 BDO Winmau British Classic and, like John, will receive a unique set of Winmau laser-etched tungsten darts in a laser-etched aluminium presentation case as a permanent keepsake.

"Winmau wanted to produce something special to add to the celebrations for the BDO's 40th anniversary year" says Ian Flack, "and what could be better than a personalised Blade board and the launch of a new exclusive 9 Dart Club with a commemorative set of darts in a presentation case (both uniquely laser-etched with the exclusive 9 Dart Club logo and player’s name). Our relationship with the BDO has spanned four decades and we can’t thank them enough for all they have done, and continue to do, for our sport.”

Sue Williams, Chairperson of the BDO, commented: "We are proud of our long and valued relationship with Winmau, and it is fitting that the BDO's 40th Anniversary Year also marks the same anniversary for the Winmau World Masters, the oldest established major on the BDO calendar. The BDO and Winmau represents the greatest 'double' in the history of world darts and we are delighted to be celebrating together throughout 2013."

Qualifying Tournaments for the Winmau 9 Dart Club (January 2013 onwards):

Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships
Winmau World Masters
BDO Winmau British Classic
Scottish Open
Welsh Open
Welsh Classic
Gold Cup
International Open
British Open
Dutch Open
Zuiderduin Masters
Six Nations Cup
British Internationals

BDO OFFICIALS OF THE YEAR AWARDS

The Personality of the Year Awards for BDO officials were awarded to: BERYL PAGE of Suffolk and GRAHAM TOMS of Cornwall.

These awards are in recognition of the lifetime of service and dedication to BDO darts that Beryl and Graham have given over their many years of dedication to BDO county darts.

All of the awards were presented at the 2013 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships. The win this year for Waites gave England their 13th winner. Waites becomes only the third winner of the title from Yorkshire, joining Dennis Priestley and John Walton as white rose victors, while at the same time thwarting 51-year-old O’Shea’s bid to become only the second fiftysomething to lift the world crown. O’Shea had produced a 30.47 per dart average to reach the final, whitewashing former world champ John Walton 3-0 in his opening game and then dashing the hopes of Steve Douglas – who is recovering from a heart attack - 4-1. Mighty Kong – Robbie Green was Silverback’s quarter final victim (5-3), while flying Dutchman Wesley Harms was grounded by rampant O’Shea in the penultimate stage 6-4. Waites, bidding to better three quarter final placings for the first time, opened his title tilt with a 3-0 rout of Dutchman Willy van de Wiel, while Belgian Geert de Vos was his second round 4-1 victim. Hartlepool hotshot Paul Jennings buckled under Scot’s hot form in the last eight, tumbling 5-2. And then the third seed achieved his dream place in the final by dismissing Richie George, the 23-year-old son of former double finalist Bobby. Waites’ average over his four matches was 30.18 per dart, a shade under O’Shea’s performance. En-route to the final O’Shea fired out 26 maximums, compared to 18 from Waites but the Halifax hotshot racked up 18 set wins from the 22 he contested compared with Silverback’s 18 wins from 26 sets. Waites’ top finish was 156 with O’Shea notching a 161 checkout. “Scotty to Hotty” took an early psychological advantage in the final, battling back from losing the opening leg to snatch the first set 3-1 against the throwing advantage after pounding Silverback with heavy scoring, including a 180. Both hit maximums in the opening leg of the next as each of the five legs went with the throw, Waites chalking up an early 2-0 match lead with an eye-catching double tops, double 10 finish. He fired out his his third 180 of the match in the next as he romped to a 3-1 set success, against the throw as O’Shea battled to find his form. The Yorkshire third seed added his fourth successive leg and went on to claim the fourth set unchallenged on double four as frustrated O’Shea desperately tried to reproduce the form of his semi final victory over Dutchman Wesley Harms. Rampant Waites notched his 22nd maximum of the week as he annexed the opening leg of the fifth set against the throw with his sixth double attempt after disconsolate O’Shea missed bull for a show-stopping 124 to turn around the final. Double tops with his second dart gave him a 2-0 set lead and dictating the pattern of the match, the Halifax hotshot wrapped up the set with double four after the Stockport player missed three doubles to save the set. Silverback’s misery continued into the next as he lost the opening leg but then snatched the second after Waites uncharacteristically missed four double attempts, bringing a wry smile to O’Shea’s face and igniting the crowd into impromptu chanting. Two 180s from the 51-year-old fourth seed steered him to the next two legs, levelling the set with both nervously missing crucial doubles before Silverback grabbed his first set with double 16 to trail 5-1 at the interval. As in the previous sets, Waites stole the throw in the opening leg of the seventh set, going on for a 3-1 success and move within one set of victory. Despite a maximum from O’Shea – his fourth of the match and 30th of the week - he was frustrated by missed doubles as Waites steamrollered his way to the first leg of eighth set, Silverback defiant in reply, with a 158 checkout, finished on double 19. Both nervously missed doubles in the third leg before Waites snatched double four. Focusing on the task ahead, he blasted out 140 and went on to clinch the title with a show-stopping 110, finished on double 16, falling to his knees in disbelief and relief. The newly-crowned champ declared: “I am quite happy with that performance. At the end of the day I have won the trophy and I am chuffed to bits. It is what everyone aspires to. I have won the world championship, I have won the Lakeside. “The crowd have been absolutely fantastic this week. They all wanted Tony O’Shea to win it of course. “My Dad is in tears. He looked a right plonker this evening in the colourful shirt he was wearing but it is his lucky shirt and he wore it when I won the Grand Slam,” said Waites with a big grin on his face. Defeated finalist O’Shea embraced his wife and said he was “sorry.” He confessed: “I was slow out of the blocks and Scott did what he does. In my other game I fought back but tonight I was just not there and Scott never gave me a chance. “I went into the final feeling really good and I am gutted – not for me but all those in the crowd who were backing me. I am really gutted I did not give him a game,” said O’Shea, who still managed a wry smile.

RESULTS

SUNDAY JAN 13TH LAKESIDE MENS FINAL

17.45: Men's Final Live on BBC TV:
Tony O'Shea(ENG) v Scott Waites (Eng) Best of 13 Sets
TONY OUT OF HARMS WAY AND INTO THE LAKESIDE FINAL

Lakeside favourite Tony O’Shea short-circuited former electrician Wesley Harms’ title aspirations with a gripping 92-minute 6-4 victory. It was nailbiting encounter which saw Sparky twice battle back to level in a match which featured 15 maximums and a plethora of 100 plus finishes. O’Shea displayed a confidence and determination which suggests this could be the year he casts off his “nearly man” image which has seen him fail to score a victory in six major tournament appearances. Tomorrow he hopes it will be third time lucky as he lines up in an intriguing all-England encounter with fellow international Scott Waites, the third seed and bookies favourite. The clash between O’Shea and Harms was eagerly awaited – a repeat of last year’s semi final which saw Silverback topple the debutant Dutchman. O’Shea snatched the opening leg against the throw after Harms missed double 18 for a 92 checkout, the Cheshire player hitting shanghai on 20s. He then hit 180 and 140 following up with a superb 121 checkout finished on double eight, Harms annexing the third on double tops. With Harms motoring down to 142 in the fourth leg, the veteran England international powered in 162 to leave himself 32, Harms leaving the same scoreline after his next throw . But O’Shea defiantly fired out double six to steal a psychological advantage after clinching the set against the throwing advantage. The opening legs of the second set went with the throw, Harms notching his 12th maximum of the week and then producing a superb 120 checkout, finished on double 20, holding his nerve to take the match-levelling fourth leg on double nine, after narrowly missing double 18. The opening legs of the third set were also shared as both players hit maximums, O’Shea exiting on 81 and then Harms on 76. Despite a 140 from the flying Dutchman, O’Shea swooped to level the set with a blockbusting 160, finished on double 20. The Stockport player missed double tops for a set-winning 120 checkout in the deciding leg the Sparky exiting on 84, wrapped up on double 11. Harms had the chance to steal the darts after hitting another maximum in the opening leg of the fourth set but fluffed three doubles, O’Shea nipping in for double 16, the Dutchman finishing the next on the same double after missing bull for 170. O’Shea took the fourth leg with the throw, his fourth maximum steering him to a match-levelling 13-darter, finished on double six. Bolstered by his fifth 180 of the match and 19th of the week, O’Shea snatched the throwing advantage in the opening leg of the fifth set, exiting in 11 darts on double tops. There was another maximum in the next as the former green keeper from Cheshire teed up the set with double 12 but he then missed double 10 for a 140 finish, the Dutchman exiting on 66. The veteran England international recovered from three missed doubles in the next leg to take a 3-2 match lead with double 10. Harms took the opening leg of the sixth against the throw, O’Shea replying with two 180s and a 12 dart finish and firing in a nail-biting 102 checkout, only to see Sparky turn on the power to level with double nine. In the next O’Shea agonised after missing seven set-winning doubles, Harms requiring 44 and hitting single 12, his next dart wide of double 16, landing in single seven. On his return to the oche, after taking a deep intake of breath, O’Shea defiantly planted his dart in double two to give himself a two set match advantage. Harms, the tournament 7/2 third favourite coolly despatched 83 with a bull finish to open the seventh set but O’Shea replied with a 118 checkout , completed on the unpopular double 19. The man from the Lowlands took the third with a 14-darter but then grimaced after he missed five doubles to take the set, O’Shea levelling with his fourth attempt for a double. Silverback missed bull for a set-winning 86 finish, Sparky hitting double eight. After taking the opening leg of the eighth set following a lack-lustre performance from the fourth seed, Harms defended his throw and then blasted in double seven for a match-levelling double seven. But you can’t keep a good man down - O’Shea snatching the opening leg of the ninth set against the throw and then unleashing a 120 checkout, finished on double tops to edge 2-0 ahead. Both missed doubles in the next before Harms scrambled to double five. Harms missed two doubles to level the set as O’Shea’s double nine eased him into a 5-4 match lead. Despite a 180 from O’Shea, Sparky had the chance to steal the throw but saw his 121 checkout thwarted after he wired double 11. He took the second with double five, Silverback firing out his 25th 180 of the week and holding on to clinch the third leg with double tops. His 11th 180 and a brace of 140s steered O’Shea ahead in the next and he punished the Dutchman’s poor scoring, clinching victory and a place in the final with double 16. Afterwards 51-year-old O’Shea admitted: “I went to bed for a few legs, I just went to sleep. But I still think there’s a lot more in my tank. In the last couple of sets I showed I am not as old as people think! But I will always give my best – 100 per cent. “I want to win this event. It’s not about the money I want to be called ‘world champion’ because they can’t take it away from you,” said the Stockport sharpshooter. Harms said: “ I am proud of my performance and would like to make it three straight semi final appearances next year.”
Bolton-based Ashton hit a maximum and an 80 checkout but was powerless to stop the 28-year-old Russian from chalking up her third world title. It was an entertaining 30-minute encounter between second seed Dobromyslova and the veteran England international, with Dobromyslova holding her nerve to clinch the title on double six. Afterwards Dobromyslova said: “I still don’t realise I have done it. It was such a tough game. If it had gone to 2-2 in the final set it could have been anyone’s title. “Being here in the final before meant I know how to handle myself. I would just like to thank my family and friends for all their support,” said the newly-crowned champ. Beaten finalist Ashton admitted: “I am gutted at losing but was really pleased to get through to the final. I don’t think the break in the game did me any good.” Both players started confidently, pounding the tiny 60 segment, the defending champ missing double tops for a 118 finish against the throwing advantage, Ashton stepping in to exit on double 10. The Russian led to the double in the next and despite five misses, exited on double five to level the game. She clinched the next against the throw on double tops after the 42-year-old Bolton player missed two finishing opportunities. Ashton fired out the first 180 of the match in the fourth set, but Dobromyslova won the race for the double and clinically checked out on 64 with treble 16 and double eight to take the opening set against the throwing advantage. The Russian player was coasting to the opening leg of the second set, leaving herself 12, but Ashton pounced with a superb 120 checkout, finished on double tops, to steal the throwing advantage. In the next, power-scoring saw Ashton first to the double and despite fluffing three shots, she moved into a 2-0 legt lead after hitting double 10. Dobromyslova replied, narrowly missing double 20 for a 117 finish, recovering from missing three further doubles before exiting on double two. Despite throwing first in the next the defending champ struggled to match Ashton’s high-scoring as the England sharpshooter levelled the match with an eye-catching 80, completed on double tops. Tons were traded in the opening leg of the deciding third set, Ashton missing double 18 for a 84 finish, as Dobromyslova pounced to finish on double 10 against the throwing advantage. But the Bolton ace replied immediately, exiting on double 10 after narrowly missing tops for a spectacular 116 checkout. With tension rising both players fired out ton plus scores, but Ashton missed double tops and then double 15 to steal the match advantage and Anastasia cooly hit single one and double 20 to edge into a 2-1 leg lead. The double world champ turned the screw in the fourth leg to leave herself on 78 with Ashton stranded in the 200s. She hit treble 18 but then agonised as two darts intended for double 12 missed their target. But with Ashton unable to finish the cool Russian sharpshooter pegged a title-winning double six for her third world title in six years – and her fourth world title on the Lakeside stage. In addition to three BDO Women's World Pro titles, it was back in 2001 as a wide-eyed teenager she clinched the Winmau World Youth title at Lakeside to launch her glittering career on the oche.... Watching the match was the 2004 Men's World Champion Andy Fordham, who has announced that he is to return to the BDO and plans to play in the Dutch Open next month. One of the sport’s greatest personalities “The Viking” was a Lakeside Semi-Finalist on four occasions and also lifted the Winmau World Masters at Frimley Green.
Fast-throwing Waites from Halifax, playing in his first Semi -Final, racked up 12 successive legs as bewildered tournament debutant George desperately tried to reproduce the form that had earned him a spot in the last four . Focused on the task, Waites used his previous Frimley Green experience to stamp his authority on the match and dictate the pace and display the form that had taken him to the 2011 Winmau World Masters title and thwart the dreams of former double world finalist Bobby George’s son. Afterwards Waites declared: “That was absolutely fantastic. To be 5-0 up at the interval was absolutely brilliant. I hit my doubles early on and that put pressure on Richie, plus he had the added pressure of his Dad being Bobby George!” Waites stamped his authority on the match taking the opening set unchallenged in just eight minutes. He took the opening leg against the throw, both players missing a total of 10 doubles before the Yorkshireman fired in a set winning double five. The Halifax playe raced into the next set taking his fourth leg in succession and then hit back to back 180s in the second leg, notching the all-important seventh 60 but missing the crucial treble 19 to set up the perfect game and eventually exiting on double one. The rookie 23-year-old Essex player who only returned to serious darts five months ago after spending time developing a business qualification in anger management missed two attempts for double tops and two double 10s to halt the rout, Waites wading in to take his sixth successive leg and 2-0 match lead. The Yorkshireman nicked the opening leg of the third set against the throw to continue his domination, firing in his third maximum in the second and then back to back 180s in the next to build up a 22 minute 3-0 match lead. Thirty five-year-old Waites roared into the fourth set with another maximum as he clinched double eight, shell-shocked George replying with his first maximum but unable to halt rampant Waites who checked out on his favourite double 18. The 15th seed missed double 18 for a set-saving 56, as the northerner continued his relentless onslaught, exiting on double one. The crowd erupted as George fired in his second maximum and clinched his first leg of the match with his second dart for double six at the start of the fifth set, Waites overcoming missed doubles to level . The gritty Yorkshireman regained control of the game in the third leg, exiting on double 14 and then hit his seventh 180 en-route to a 5-0 interval match lead with his third attempt for double 12 after just 38 minutes of play.
A 124 checkout in the next opened the 2nd set for Scott before Jennings hit his second maximum and then had trouble with his doubles on his way to levelling at 1-1. Scott then went 2-1 up with d2 and was on 32 with Jenno way back on 222. Now Scott had trouble with his doubles until d2 came to the rescue again to put him 2-0 up in sets. The first leg of the third set went to Scott but Paul took out an impressive 101 to level the set with throw. Both players suffered more double trouble in the 3rd leg and Scott finally took the leg with d20. Paul levelled the game to 2 legs each with some precision darts, but could not push on in the deciding leg and Scott took out 28 with Jenno sat on 110. 16 darts gave Paul the advantage in the opening leg of the 4th set and he went on to make it 2-0 only to see Scott hit back to take the next two legs to level at 2-2. Another 180 from Scott in the fifth leg and d8 made it an imposing 4-0 set lead at the break. Paul won the first leg of the 5th set, but a 70 checkout brought it level for Scott to be on the way to his first ever Lakeside Semi-Final. Not that Paul was ready to roll over as he went 2-1 up in the set. Scott then levelled but Paul took the next for his first set to go 4-1 in the match. He then opened the next with the first leg followed by a 180 in the next leg as Scott had severe double trouble to go down 2-0. He then rallied to 2-1 having missed 12 doubles in the set and then made it 2-2 to once again be one leg away from the Semi-Final. Jenno then hit a 180 on his way to winning his 2nd set at the break. After being 4-0 down he was now 4-2! Was there another comeback on the cards? Scotty won the first leg of the 7th set and then the next to once again be one leg away. He won it on d18 to fulfil his dream to get past the Quarter Finals. Next step the Semi-Final against Richie George.
Richie won the next on d14 to level the set before Jan made it 2-1. Richie opened the next with his second maximum (his 13th of the week) and then levelled on 2-2. He then broke to take the 1st set with a 41 checkout. He looked favourite to win the opening leg of the next, but Jan made no mistake. Jan missed 7 darts at double in the next before going 2-0 up. Both then suffered double trouble and an unlucky bounce out on tops for Richie opened the door for Jan to take the set 3-0 in legs and level at 1-1. With his 4th leg on the trot Jan opened the 3rd set and then went 2-0 up with an 80 checkout. In the next Richie hit 180 number three, but his inconsistency produced only 60 with his next throw. However, he stopped the rot to win the leg against the darts. Jan then hit his first maximum of the match on his way to winning 6 of the last 7 legs to go 2-1 up in sets. Poor scoring and inconsistent finishing from Richie was proving costly for Richie. Tops won him the opening leg of the third set but Jan checked 92 to level and then moved to 2-1 on his way to another set. With Richie on 201 Jan made it 3-1 after more missed darts and unusually low scoring from Richie. After the break Dekker carried on where he left off with a 119 checkout to take the opening leg after Richie had failed to hit a single treble. But a 13 darter levelled the set for Richie and he then followed with a 180 in the next for another 13 darter. Now it was Jan missing the doubles and Richie took the set to make it 3-2. With his fourth successive leg Richie went 1-0 up in the 6th set. Jan then hit his second maximum and took out the leg with a 148 checkout to level at 1-1. With both on 32 in the next, Richie took it to go 2-1 up and then d10 made it 3-3 in sets after he had won 6 of the last 7 legs. Jan returned from the break to hit a 180 on his way to the first leg before Richie levelled. Jan his another 180 to start the next leg, but it was Richie who took the break to go 2-1 up in the set to go ahead in the next 4-3 in sets. A 14 dart leg from Jan broke the George throw to go 1-0 up in the 8th set and the inconsistency returned to the George throw with four consecutive scores of 60 as Dekker went 2-0 up and then levelled at 4-4 in sets. The 9th set opened with a 180,140 from Richie and a check of 86 to make it 1-0. Two 180s from Dekker in the next wasn't enough as Richie took the leg to put him one away from the Semi-Final. But Jan was not finished as he hit yet another 180 and went on to make it 2-1. And it all came down to double 8 for a famous victory after he was 3-1 down. Magic darts!
With Trina on 38, Anastasia hit 137 to leave double 10 to put on the pressure. However, Trina hit d19 with one dart. In the next Trina was a long way off the pace when Anastasia checked on d4 to once again level the set at 2-2. In a nervy deciding leg, Anastasia was first to her double, but when she missed Trina checked d16 to win the 1st set. In the opening leg of the next the Russian star checked out with 81 and bullseye, which meant that all legs had gone with the darts. Trina kept that trend going with a 13 darter to level at 1-1. In the third leg Anastasia hit her first maximum and was down to 55 after 12 darts and checked on double top in 15. The set score was now 2-1 to Anastasia. The next saw missed doubles from both players, but eventually it was Anastasia who won the leg and the 2nd set. 1-1 from two great Champions! A 120 checkout (the highest of the match) from Trina put her in the lead. But it wasn't for long because d4 from Anastasia levelled at 1-1. In the next Trina missed double 10 and Anastasia made it 2-1 in legs and was just one away from the final - which she took with double 12 for her second successive Lakeside final.
Robbie opened the next with an 11 dart leg and hit another maximum in the next, but it was Tony who levelled. Robbie's average at this stage was just short of 105 as he went 2-1 up, but Tony hit back again to make it 2-2 - this time with all legs going with the darts. Eight missed darts from Robbie to take the set were punished when Tony took d-7 to level 1-1 in sets going into the first break. Tony easily won the 1st leg of the third set and then hit a 180 in the next, but it was Robbie who levelled. Then three 140s from Tony were matched by a 180 from Robbie, but Tony took the leg to lead 2-1 and followed with the next to move ahead 2-1 in sets. Robbie then hit another maximum to open the 4th set to go 1-0 up in legs, then came yet another in the 2nd leg, but it was Tony who took it to level at 1-1 and another d-12 took him to 2-1. 180 from Tony was followed by one from Robbie and Tony went into the 2nd break to go 3-1 up after being 1-0 down at the beginning of the match. After the break Robbie hit his 8th maximum to help him take the first leg against the darts, and then checked 110 for a 2-0 lead in legs. Tony then hit back to make it 2-1 but a 180 couldn't stop Robbie taking the set score to 3-2. Four legs out of five won the opening leg of the 6th set for Robbie, but Tony levelled with an 11 dart leg and opened the next with a 180 and a leg against the darts to go 2-1 up in the set was followed by d-18 to lead by 4-2 in sets as he headed for yet another Lakeside Semi-Final. After the break Robbie won the opening two legs of the 7th set and then Tony checked 82 to make it 2-1 before Robbie hit back to win the 7th set to make it 4-3. Tony won the 1st leg of the 8th set and hit yet another maximum in the next to go 2-0 up and just one leg from the Semi-Final. He took it with d-8 for his second Semi-Final meeting with Wesley Harms with a 5-3 victory.
Wesley then crowned it as he hit a stunning 161 checkout on the bull to take the first set. Great darts from both players. In the next, after missing his first double of the match, Darryl eventually took the opening leg, but staying with the darts (7 in a row) Wesley levelled at 1-1. Darryl's 4th 180 helped him take the next leg in 12 darts. Maximum number 5 followed and d18 levelled it for Fitton at 1-1 in sets. After the first break Wesley hit his first 180, but Darryl got a break when he took the first leg (his third in a row) and Harms broke straight back to level. Then came Darryl's 6th maximum but it couldn't prevent Wesley going 2-1 up. Wesley missed d-11 and Darryl checked 60 to level again at 2-2....however Wesley checked 64 to take the set score to 2-1 in his favour. Darryl hit back with a 96 checkout on d-8 with Wesley levelling with a 100 out. Then came Darryl's 7th maximum as the high-scoring continued at a pace and the Dazzler took the 4th leg in 12 darts. At 2-2 the 5th leg was crucial because Wesley could make the set score 3-1, but a massive 8th maximum from Fitton gave him a win with a d-4 to level the set score at 2-2. Fantastic and exciting darts from both players as they left the stage for a break of the match. Wesley won the 1st leg of the 5th set and then started the next with his 4th and 5th maximum an 11 dart leg. Then d-3 made it three legs in a row for a lead of 3-2 in sets to Wesley. In the 6th Darryl won the opening leg but in the next Wesley hit another maximum followed by a 171 to guarantee a set levelling leg, and another quickly followed before a 104 checkout meant that Wesley had won 6 out of the last 7 legs and was now 4-2 ahead and just one leg away from his second successive Semi-Final. The break suited Darryl as he broke the throw of Wesley in the 1st leg of the 7th set. But Harms broke straight back with a 40 finish on double-5, double 15. Then he took the next to be only one leg away from winning the match having won 8 of the last 10. But Darryl was not about to give in as he levelled the set at 2-2, but sadly it was only a brief respite as Wesley took the next to make it a 5-2 victory and a second successive Semi-Final for Wesley.
Lisa then clinically finished the set with a 120 checkout. She was so determined to fulfil her dream of winning Lakeside, she didn't drop a single leg in the match and it was a 55 checkout to win the second set that took her to her very first Lakeside final.
Richie then won his first leg with some super high scoring, but Jimmy came back against the darts to win the first set. Richie hit his first 180 in the opening leg of the 2nd set and won it in 14 darts. He then took the 2nd leg and Jimmy started the third with a maximum followed by another from Richie, but he missed his double and Jimmy took the leg. Richie's third maximum and a 129 checkout took the set. Then came his 4th and 5th maximums as he wrapped up another leg in 12 darts to go 2-0 ahead in legs and then take the set for a 2-1 lead. Another 180 in the first leg of the 4th set from Jimmy helped him on the way to winning the leg. And his 4th maximum came in the next as he went 2-0 up in the set before Richie hit d-20 against the darts to make it 2-1. Richie's 6th maximum took him to 40 after 12 darts and once again he took it on d-20 to level the set at 2-2. Having missed d-16 (which he hadn't hit all week) Jimmy finally won the set after Richie missed crucial doubles, and it was Game On at 2-2 in sets for the two young Gladiators of the oche! More double trouble for Richie and a succession of 60 scores didn't prevent him from winning the opening leg of the 5th set, but Jimmy levelled at 1-1. Another three missed doubles from Richie, but he took d-4 to go 2-1 up in legs, only to see Jimmy hit back to level and show that there was very little between the players in scoring and finishing. A 100 checkout from Richie then made the set score 3-2. Jimmy hit double 16 for the first time in the Championship to win the 1st leg of set 6, but Richie started the next with maximum number 7 and took the 2nd leg in 13 darts. More missed doubles cost Richie the next leg as Jimmy went 2-1 up. Richie then levelled at 2-2 to be one away from winning the match. And he started the leg with his 8th maximum and won it on d-20 to march into the Lakeside Quarter Finals on his debut. A great game from both players!
He started the next with a 12 dart leg finished on d-9, but once again Geert levelled. Again double trouble cost Scotty the leg (7 out of 33 in the match to this point) to go 2-1 down in the 4th set. At last double 12 from Scott levelled the set at 2-2 and then a magnificent 148 checkout (his highest of the Championship so far) won him the 4th set and lead by 3-1 in the match. After the second break of the match, Scott won the opening 2 leg s of the 5th set and it was double-3 that gave him the match and entry to his 4th Lakeside Quarter-Final.
