Tickets Go On Sale For The BDO's New Event

The British Darts Organisation (BDO) and their new commercial partners, BDO Events LTD, have today announced the name of their new major title.  The inaugural BDO World Trophy will have a guaranteed prize fund of £115,000, making it one of the largest in the game of darts.   Hosted in the stylish Tower Ballroom, which sits within the impressive Blackpool Tower the tournament presents new opportunities for both men and lady players to also gain crucial BDO Ranking Points. The events will take place from the 4th -9th of February 2014.

Entry forms, eligibility rules and information for tickets for the main event are now available on the BDO Events Website.

Sue Williams, Chairman of the BDO, said:   “The BDO is very excited about the BDO World Trophy at Blackpool Tower.  Our partnership with BDO Events is providing a platform for players, broadcasters and sponsors to gain world-wide recognition in the darting arena.   The BDO World Trophy has already attracted interest from around the world, and we are hopeful that this tournament will provide a fantastic platform for darts.”

Scott Newhouse, Director of BDO Events, explained:   “This event is the first major tournament for BDO/BDO Events partnership in our quest to develop the game.  I am sure this will be the first of many.   The knock-out format will provide the opportunity for grass roots players to play against the leading lights in the game and you never know with the nature of darts who will progress to the main stage finals.  With the knockout format before the stage finals this is truly a “Festival of Darts.”

Scott Waites, reigning BDO World Darts Champion and professional darts player said:   “A new event on the world stage is exactly what we need.  I’ve been a serious player since 2007 and it’s been great but I’m ready for a change and backing BDO Events all the way to freshen things up.   For me it’s as much about playing darts with my mates on a Monday night and having a laugh, as the razzmatazz of the big tournaments. But I’m walking taller since winning the BDO World Championship and very proud of that title.  I’ve really turned it up a notch this year.  It’s time for a new era of darts and this new major will help spice things up at the top in a really unique venue.”
