Yorkshire Classic report
Jean Thomas reports on the weekends Yorkshire Classic.
This years Yorkshire Classic was held in a Casino in Huddersfield. Grosvenor Casino came on board to sponsor the event and it proved to be a great success. The icing on the cake was when James (Jammie Dodger) Wilson , local Huddersfield lad and Yorkshire A team player beat his team mate, current holder of Yorkshire Classic title John Dean 4-0 in the final. James had taken out Lancashire player Eddie Dootson in the semis with a convincing 4-1 win and nothing could stop him from that point, producing some awesome darts to see off John.
In the other semi final John took out another class player, Steve West, who struggled to maintain the form he had shown all day to get there, succumbing to John with a scoreline of 4-2.
In the ladies final Lancs and England International Lisa Ashton beat fellow International and Yorkshire County player Lorraine Farlam with a thrilling 4-2 win.
Yorkshire would like to thank their new sponsors for a fantastic day of darts and look forward to a long association with Grosvenor. It must have been a very surreal situation for the regular Sunday evening punters during a presentation which rang out to the chants of there's only one Jamie Wilson, you couldn't make it up. The casino backdrop and the darts certainly seemed to compliment each other and I can safely say that there was a lot more money lost on the tables and machines than on the dartboards.
