Tony Green To Miss Lakeside For The First Time in 33 Years

Tony Green, the voice of BDO darts on BBC TV, has been diagnosed with cancer of the tongue, and will be missing from the commentary box at the BDO Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships in January. It will be the first BDO World Championship he has missed since it was first shown on BBC TV as The Embassy.

“We will miss Tony very much at this year’s Lakeside”, says Olly Croft, Managing Director of BDO Enterprises Ltd, “He is the most respected commentator in darts and everyone at the BDO sends their best wishes to him for a full recovery.

“Thankfully the prognosis is good and he will be starting treatment from middle of December, with radiotherapy and some chemotherapy.

“His doctors have said that they are confident of a full recovery and we are looking forward to welcoming him back fit and healthy after his treatment.”

Tony has commentated on every World Professional since 1978 - 33 consecutive years from 1978 to 2010, and is a household name as lead commentator for the BBC on all BDO darts, and of course his long association with TV’s iconic ‘Bullseye’ series.

The commentary team for the 2011 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships will be David Croft and Vassos Alexander.
