Lancashire defeat champions Cheshire.
Lancashire began the BICC season with a well deserved win over reigning champions Cheshire.
Lindsey Ashton made a fantastic debut, throwing a 180 with only her 2nd visit to the oche and winning 3-0 to take the Lady of the match award with a 62.63 average. The ladies B team won 5-1, Allyson Smith (61.99) and Laura Howarth (60.62) also impressing with great darts.
The Mens B recovered from 5-2 down to win 7-5. Burys’ Martin Barratt excelled with a 92.02 average as did Blackpools’ Derek Timmins (91.81). Congratulations to Anthony Cooper and Andy Cornwall for making the county squad. Anthony started with a 3-1 victory whilst Andy was unlucky to come up against an in form Fred Smith. Gary Hooper secured the win for the Red Rose, the highlight being a 158 outshot.
The only negative from the weekend was a 4-2 defeat in the Ladies A match. After perfect records last season, Olive Byamukama and Lisa Ashton continue their great form, especially Lisa who achieved the highest premier league ladies average of the weekend (75.12), earning herself £350, after defeating fellow England International Lorraine Farlam 3-1.
Victory was secured in the afternoon when the Mens A drew 6-6. Dave Chisnall (87.78) celebrated his 30th Birthday with a MotM performance to beat Dave Pallett 4-2. Doug Smith finished twice on the bull including a 122 check to defeat Darryl Fitton 4-2, whilst there were also victories for Eddie Dootson, Paul Whitworth, Steve Barrow and Dave Johnston. Unfortunately, chance of victory was taken away as Tony O’Shea defeated Andy Gudgeon in the final game.
A brilliant 23-16 victory, one that won’t be enjoyed by many teams visiting Rudheath this season.
