Wesley Harms avenged his previous record against Tony O’Shea with a fantastic victory over ‘The Silverback’ in the final match of the day. O’Shea had previously beaten Harms in two BDO World Professional Darts Championship semi-final’s and entered the contest with an air of confidence.
BDO veteran O’Shea’s walk-on will go down as an all-time great moment, but his early momentum would be halted in the first set as Harms took it 3-0. But the favour would be returned as he took out a 61 checkout on double to level proceedings.
Harms would miss set darts as O’Shea took out a magical 120 checkout to ease ahead in the tie. Another ton plus checkout would see him go two legs away from victory but the Dutchman showed tremendous resilience to stay in the contest.
With the match finely balanced, an 81 checkout on the bullseye would turn the tide in Harms’ favour. O’Shea, despite the encouragement from the crowd, would have no response. Harms seeing out a dramatic tie, and fantastic opening night at the home of world darts.
