Over 400 players took part in last weekend’s (24-25 November) Finder Italian Grand Masters and Italian Open, which saw Dutch duo Wesley Harms and Aileen de Graaf crowned Grand Masters. In the Italian Open, the three-time BDO World Professional Champion Martin Adams was back to winning ways as he took the title, whilst Aileen de Graaf did the double by taking her second title of the weekend.
Harms claimed his third successive Italian victory with a win over Belgium’s Mario Vandenbogaerde . Vandenbogaerde stormed into an early lead, but Harms fought back to claim a narrow 6-4 win. Harms faced a battle with fellow countryman Richard Veenstra in his semi-final, whilst Vandenbogaerde beat England’s Scott Mitchell 5-3 to progress into the final.
Martin Adam’s was back to winning ways as he took the 2018 Italian Open with a close 6-5 win over Spain’s Ricardo Perez Ibarra. The unseeded Ibarra earlier denied Vandenbogaerde his second final of the weekend as Ibarra won their semi-final match 5-4. Aaron Turner reached his second semi-final of the 2018-2019 season, but an early break of throw by Adams saw him take a 5-3 victory.
The final stages of both the Ladies Finder Italian Grand Masters and the Italian Open were mirrored, as de Graaf faced Paula Jacklin in both finals, emerging victorious on both occasions. Jacklin faced fellow Lincolnshire team mate Trina Gulliver in both semi-finals, whilst de Graaf saw off challenges from Laura Turner to take her place in the finals.
