LITHUANIA'S Darius Labanauskas and Holland’s Aileen de Graaf took the Men’s and Ladies Latvian Open singles titles last weekend at the Bellevue Park Hotel in Riga.
Labanauskas was in top form, dropping only five legs in his final three matches, beating his pairs partner and fellow Lithuanian, Mindaugas Barauskas 5-1 in the quarter finals before seeing off the number 12 seed, Nauris Gleglu, 5-2 in the semi-final.
Labanauskas faced England’s John Scott in the final, who had earlier triumphed over Veugelers Rick 5-1 in the second men’s semi-final in order to reach his first BDO ranked final. Scott couldn’t quite reproduce his earlier form against Labanauskas, who won 6-2 with a 91.58 to take the title.
The ladies final saw number one seed Deta Hedman face number two seed Aileen de Graaf. Hedman won her place in the final following a 5-0 victory over Andrea Brad, whilst de Graaf saw off fellow Dutch player Priscilla Steenbergen 5-2. The final saw de Graaf take her fourth title of the 2018/2019 season with a 5-1 victory over Hedman and a 76.26 average.
