36th Australian Grand Masters

The 36th Australian Masters’ took place on Sunday the 10th in Canberra. Peter Machin retained his Australian Grand Master’s title in a closely contested match which went all the way against the ‘Guru’, Raymond Smith. Machin, only recently back from the BDO World Darts Trophy in Preston, took the title 7-6. In the semi’s Machin defeated Laurie Loch 6-1 and Smith defeated Mal Cumming 6-4.

In the ladies’ event, Corrine Hammond, newly returned from her successful year on the tour in and around Europe, reclaimed the Australian Grand Master’s title with a convincing 6-1 victory over fellow Australian Lorraine Burns. Hammond had a narrow victory 5-4 over Barb Smyth in the semi-finals, and Burns saw off a challenge from Kim Kelly in straight legs 5-0.
