SHAUN GREATBATCH: LATEST NEWS |
 |
Although Shaun made an appearance
at the BDO British Open he still has some way to go before his recovery
is complete. He will be entering hospital at the beginning of November
for continued treatment. Shaun has now withdrawn from the Winmau World
Masters and the Zuiderduin Masters but he remains optimistic about his
chances of taking part at the Lakeside in January.
I am sure we all wish him well at this difficult time. |

ELLIE HINDLE
|
 |
On behalf of the British Darts Organisation it is my
sad duty to report the passing away of
ELLIE HINDLE, a wonderful lady who the BDO worked closely with for
many years at Pontin’s, Brean Sands.
Her happy, smiling face and
wonderfully positive personality initially gave her the strength to
fight cancer, but in the end that dreadful illness beat her.
Her funeral will take place at
Weston-super-Mare Crematorium on Friday, September 19th at 11AM.
There will be a Humanist Service and mourners have been asked not
to wear black, but to attend in brightly coloured clothes to commemorate
the passing of a lovely lady.
Flowers and cards can be sent to
Burnham Funeral Services, 97,
Oxford Street, Burnam-on-Sea, Somerset (01278-795009) or via the florist
being used by Ellie’s family: Rosemarie’s Florist on 01278-784446.

WDF EUROPE CUP 2008 |
 |
The Men of Denmark surprised everyone by winning the
2008 WDF Europe Cup for Men after a dramatic "last leg of the
tournament" win over the Netherlands. With the Men's Team Final poised
at 8-8 Frede Johansen got the better of Fabien Roosenbrand in a nervous
final leg to ensure that the trophy went to Denmark for the first time
ever. This was the closest Europe Cup ever with just 9 points separating
the top four teams. In the Singles Mark Webster retained his title with
4-0 win over Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney while the England pairing
of Martin Adams and John Walton won the Pairs. They defeated Marko
Kantele and Jarkko Komula 4-2.
Scotland's Women, Suzanna Young and Louise Hepburn,
claimed their first ever European title with Sweden taking the Silver
and Wales the Bronze. The foundation of the Scottish win was their solid
Singles performances where Louise Hepburn took the title with Susanna
Young and England's Lisa Ashton sharing third place. Julie Gore and Jan
Robbins of Wales took the Women's Pairs title with a 4-1 win over
Sweden's Carina Ekberg and Grethel Glasö. |
