IMPORTANT CHANGES TO BDO INVITATION TABLES CRITERIA

Following a comprehensive review of the BDO Invitation Tables by the BDO Board of Directors, there will be more events, more available prize money and more opportunities for BDO and WDF players from 2009 onwards.

The Board has agreed to introduce a whole raft of changes that will come into effect in 2009.

This includes recognition of the first ever International Grand Prix Of The Lowlands, comprising five Dutch and Belgium events, plus the inclusion of three additional events in the USA and the Quebec Open in Canada.

The recently announced International Grand Prix of The Lowlands, which will be played for the first time in 2009, comprises three Singles events under the auspices of the Belgium Darts Bond: The Antwerp Open, Primus Masters and Vlaanderen Open, and two Netherlands Darts Bond Singles events: the Holland Open and Thialf Open.

The NBD are planning to add another event to the International Grand Prix Of The Lowlands, bringing the total to three tournaments in Holland and three in Belgium. An announcement will be made shortly.

The three American events to be added to the BDO Invitation Tables for 2009 are all Singles events: The Charlotte Open, Colorado Open and the Virginia Beach Classic.

The starting point for the 2009 BDO Invitation Tables is from the 2008 Klondike Open onwards, and it now means that the following will offer valuable BDO Invitation Tables points:

24 Events within the European Region
15 Events in the ‘Outside Europe’ category
In the Australasian Region players will have access to 8 recognised events.
In the North American Region players will have access to 10 recognised events.
In the UK Region players already have access to 10 recognised events which collectively provide a reachable target without excessive expenditure.

Points allocations are also being increased, with ‘Special Events’ like the Lakeside World Professional and Winmau World Masters receiving an additional 3 points per placing; Outside Europe events receiving an additional 2 points per placing and European events having an extra 2 points per placing in Categories A and B, with a separate allocation for the new Category C.

There will be no change in the points allocation for Category D and E.

The standing of players in the BDO Invitation Tables will now be based on an aggregate of the points attained in their ‘best ten’ events during the designated period.

“We are delighted to be making these important changes to reflect the growth of BDO and WDF darts globally” says BDO Chairman Dave Alderman. “By doing so we are not only increasing the opportunities for UK and European players to progress to our major World events, but also widening the opportunities for those players from further afield – without adding greatly to the overall expenditure of the players.

“We are particularly pleased to be adding the International Lowlands Grand Prix to our calendar from 2009 onwards. This will offer additional prize money to our players, as well as helping to revitalise darts in Holland and Belgium”.

Importantly, events in the BDO Invitation Tables are open to all players who are eligible to play in the Winmau World Masters and Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

BDO MENS & WOMENS INVITATION TABLE SYSTEM & STRUCTURE

The BDO Invitation Table Structure only relates to currently registered Playing Members of the British Darts Organisation, who are normally resident within Great Britain, or to current Playing Members of a Member Darts Body of the World Darts Federation, who are normally resident within the Country represented by that Member Darts Body.

To be included in this table ALL players must comply with the BDO and WDF Eligibility Rules.
