2009 WINMAU BDO BRITISH CLASSIC

The 2009 Winmau BDO British Classic – the third event in this year’s BDO Fire Kills International Grand Prix Series – will be contested by the top BDO players at Kettering Conference Centre this Saturday, July 25^th.

The line-up will include BDO and World No.1 Tony O'Shea (England), currently sharing top sport in the BDO Fire Kills International Grand Prix table with Ross Montgomery (Scotland).

Tony O’Shea is in blistering form this year. He was runner-up in the Lakeside World Professional and England Open and has claimed victories in the Scottish Open, BDO International Open and Welsh Classic.

ENGLAND NATIONAL SINGLES 2009

Ian White from Cheshire and Trina Gulliver from Warwickshire won the England National Singles titles at Stockport yesterday. Ian defeated Doug Smith from Lancashire 4 - 1. Trina beat Lancashire's Lisa Ashton 3 - 1.

Trina Gulliver made it a weekend double with a narrow 4 - 3 win over Lisa Ashton in today's England Masters Women's Final. Brian Woods took the Men's title beating Dave Chisnall 6 - 3. The Youth title went to Yorkshire's Ben Oldroyd who beat Matt McLeod from Lancashire 3 - 1

STUBBSY MOVES TO ESPN

Ray presented football, snooker, darts and other sports in his successful 25 years with BBC TV.

"This was always going to be a difficult decision," he said. "But a chance to join one of the world's top broadcasters on day one of a new channel was too good an opportunity to miss."

Head of BBC TV Sport Philip Bernie said: "Ray has been a fantastic member of the BBC Sport team for many years and we wish him all the best for the future."

ESPN acquired the live rights for 46 Premier League matches next season following the collapse of Irish broadcaster Setanta.

Ray’s first match fronting ESPN’s coverage of soccer will be Everton v Arsenal at Goodison Park on 15 August.

Everyone at the BDO sends their best wishes to an enthusiastic front man whose passion for darts was second to none. His style fitted perfectly with that of Bobby George, with whom he presented Lakeside coverage from 1999 to 2009, and the World Masters since 2002.

“Ray has been a marvellous ambassador for BDO darts over many years”, says Olly Croft, “and although we will miss him at Lakeside and Bridlington, we wish him every success with all he does at ESPN”.

DARTS’ RICHEST TWO-DAY TELEVISED TOURNAMENT GETS EVEN RICHER!

The 2009 WINMAU WORLD MASTERS, in association with John Smith’s and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will have record-breaking prize money of £64,500 when it is played at The Spa Bridlington on September 4^th, 5^th and 6^th.

This means that the Winmau World Masters, already the richest two-day darts tournament on terrestrial BBC TV has just got even richer!

“Winmau is absolutely delighted to be maintaining its commitment to increasing prize money year on year”, says Ian Flack, Sales & Marketing Director of Winmau.

“We are adding an extra £3,500 to the overall prize money for this year’s World Masters, which means that in the Men’s Masters there is an even greater reward for the players reaching the Last 16 stage matches, because they are guaranteed £750 each (this is £250 per player up on 2008 figures).

“The Quarter-Finalists will receive £1,500 each (another increase of £250 per player) and in the Women’s World Masters, we have added £500 to the runner-up prize which will now be £2,000.
