At a Full Council
meeting of the BDO held today 31st January, a vote by County
delegates agreed by majority decision to turn down an offer by the PDC
to buy the BDO.
No further details are available at this time.
28th January
BRITISH TEENAGE 2010
The entry forms for the County
qualifiers for the 2010 British Teenage are now available. The
qualifiers will be played during June and July.
The Finals will be played in Kettering on 25th July.
Andy Beardmore is the 2010 Gwynedd Open Champion,
he scored a narrow 5 legs to 4 win over Robbie Green (Cheshire) in the
final, after a 4 - 2 victory over Robbie's County colleague Stephen
Bunting in his semi-final match.
With this win the Staffordshire County player has now secured his place
in this years' World Masters Finals and the International play-offs of
the 2011 BDO World Championships.
The other semi-final saw Robbie ending the hopes of Dafydd Edwards of
Montgomery & Radnor 4 - 1.
The last eight points positions went to - David Smith-Hayes
(Derbyshire), John Roberts (Montgomery & Radnor) and the Gwynedd duo of
Martin Phillips and Aled Jones.
Gaynor Williams (Gwynedd) collected the "furthest lady" award, when she
reached the last 16 of the event that attracted 256 entries to the
Wellmans Club Llangefni.

SCOTTISH MIXED PAIRS 2010
Kate
Wilson and Alex Lister
from East Stirlingshire took the Scottish Mixed Pairs title when they
beat last year's champions Clackmannanshire's Jenni Tully and Craig
Baxter 3 - 0 in the final at Bannockburn Miners Welfare Club
today.

Just a week after being crowned
2010 Lakeside World Champions, Martin Adams and
Trina Gulliver proudly showed off their trophies when
Cambridgeshire met Warwickshire in the BritishInter-County
Championships.
Both World Champions won their respective matches
but at the end of the day it was Trina who had the biggest smile because
Warwickshire secured the overall match victory 22 - 17.

ESSEX OPEN 2010: 28TH FEBRUARY
The Men's Essex Open 2010
will be once again sponsored by, and held at, the Ford Sports & Social
Club, Ilford. Prize money will be paid down to the last 32, with other
awards on the day. BDO Grand Prix Points are applied for.
Pre entry by 19th February 2010, entries on the day only by known
absences or failure to register. For entries call 01268-683492 or
download the entry form from "BDO Diary Dates" or the "Links" section of
the Essex County website.

"WOLFIE" TAKES WORLD CROWN AFTER EPIC
BATTLE
Martin "Wolfie" Adams lifted the Lakeside
World Professional Darts Championship trophy for the second time after
an epic battle with Lancashire's Dave Chisnall. "Wolfie" looked to be cruising when he took
a 4 sets to 1 lead but again the Lancastrian showed his fighting
qualities by staging a storming comeback. This time however he came up
short as 53 year old Adams held his nerve to take the coveted crown for
the second time in four years.

A TRIBUTE TO ‘DELLA’
Yesterday we were all saddened to learn of the passing of Della
Fleetwood, Treasurer, World Darts Federation – her sudden demise will be
a great loss to the sport of darts.
Della and her husband Tom were loyal friends and firm supporters of the
British Darts Organisation since the early 1970’s.
Affectionately known as ‘Miss Della’ to her
colleagues – her skills as a former teacher and her passion for the
sport of darts provided a unique blend of forthright common sense and
compassion when communicating with officials and players at all levels
and from all parts of the world.
On behalf of the thousands of players and officials
that make up the BDO family I would like to express our deepest sympathy
and sincere condolences to her family and close friends.
Since the foundation of the World Darts Federation back in 1976 I
enjoyed a continuous working relationship with Della up to the present
day – like many, many others it was a privilege to have known her and
count on her as a friend.
Your presence in our great sport
will be sorely missed – rest in peace Della.

ENGLAND'S GOLDEN GIRL
MAKES IT NUMBER EIGHT
England's "Golden Girl" Trina Gulliver
took the Women's World Professional title for the eight time at the
Lakeside this evening. Trina defeated the new Welsh comet Rhian Edwards
by two sets to nil in a quality final. Trina has appeared in all of the
ten finals that have been played in the Women's event.

SUSSEX GRAND PRIX CANCELLED
Due to the adverse weather conditions and
the forecast of further snow the Sussex Darts Organisation have been
forced to cancel the Sussex Grand Prix which was scheduled for this
coming Sunday 12th January. The organisers hope to re-arrange the event
later in the year.

TRAGIC ACCIDENT AT LAKESIDE
Following the tragic accident in which a darts
fan perished in the frozen lake at Lakeside Country Club on Thursday,
January 7th, the British Darts Organisation would like to
send their sincere condolences to his family and friends.
The following is a statement issued by
Surrey Police:
Surrey Police can
confirm that the body of
Philip Hughes (45) of Slough, Buckinghamshire, has been recovered from the lake at
Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green. Police were alerted to the
discovery at around 10.45 this morning (Jan 7th} by a member
of staff at the complex.
An investigation is underway to establish the
circumstances surrounding the death.

3rd January
TOM FORSYTHE HAS PASSED AWAY
It is with great sadness that we report
the passing of Northern Ireland General Secretary Tom Forsythe.
Tom was diagnosed with cancer and died on the 31st December. Tom lived
for darts and will be greatly missed by his many friends everywhere.
Our sincere condolences go to his family at this sad time.

on Scotland's Paul Hanvidge. There will be four matches in the afternoon

The 2010 Lakeside World Professional Championships kicks off at 13.30 GMT today with WDF World Cup Singles Champion
Tony "Silverback" O'Shea facing Robbie "Kong"
Green".Both players were very narrowly beaten in last year's BDO
Majors.
Tony losing 7-6 to Ted Hankey at the Lakeside, while Robbie suffered the same fate
(with an identical score-line) at the hands of Martin Adams in the Winmau World Masters.
